Governor Wike surprises Nigerian Army with land, 20 vehicles
Governor Nyesome Wike of Rivers state made the presentation to the Nigerian Army in Port Harcourt during the operationalisation of its 6 Division
- Governor Wike said as a responsible government that he heads, the state was aware of the efforts of the Nigerian Army to secure the country
Apart from the land which is located in Omuma local government area of the state, Wike also donated a number of 20 operational vehicles to the Army in what he says is meant to support efforts to secure the country.
A statement from Simeon Nwakaudu, the special assistant to the governor on electronic media, Wike made the donation at the operationalisation of the 6 Division of the Nigeria Army in Port Harcourt on Thursday, July 13.

The 20 operational vehicles to the Army include 10 Hilux vans and 10 buses.
“As a responsible government, we appreciate the contributions of the Nigerian Army in the development of the country.
"We appreciate the contributions of the Nigerian Army in dislodging criminals in our state.
“That is why will continue to support you. These operational vehicles will help the new Division fight crime,” Wike said according to the statement obtained by Philipconcept Blog's
According to Wike, the state government will construct a park for the Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association in Port Harcourt to be used by children of officers in the state.
He promised assistance to the Army in setting up a Standard Command Secondary School in Port Harcourt to promote education.
Speaking at the event, the defence minister, Mansur Mohammed Dan-Ali, stated that the operationalisation of the 6 Division of the Army would strengthen security in the Niger Delta.
On his part, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt-General Tukur Buratai, commended President Muhammadu Buhari for funding security activities saying this had impacted positively on the Niger Delta.
Also speaking, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), Major-General Okon Udoh, said Governor Wike had made critical investments in the provision of logistics to the new Division.
The statement said the event was an opportunity to witness the flag off of the 6 Division Anti-Kidnapping Squad, 6 Division Anti-Bunkering Squad, 6 Division Strike Force and 6 Operation Check Mate.
Meanwhile, Philipconcept Blog's earlier reported that the Nigerian army inaugurated a water treatment plant at Abakpa Cantonment in Enugu, capable of treating and supplying one million litres of water daily to the barracks and its environs.
Abakpa cantonment is the headquarters of the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army.
