Rotten bodies of soldiers, NNPC staff pose epidemic threat at UNIMAID - Official

- A senior staff of the mortuary of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) has disclosed that rotten bodies of victims of Boko Haram at the Mortuary can lead to epidemic
- He said the victims include 12 soldiers, five university lecturers, 13 civilian JTF from Magumeri, two Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) staff
- UMTH official also said that even the corpse of Dr J.V Militus, the senior
lecturer at University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID), is rotting and there is no one to claim it
A senior official of the hospital of the mortuary of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) has decried that the corpses of the victims of the Boko Haram attack in Magumeri local government area of Borno state are presently becoming rotten at the hospital.
He said that the members of the staff are bothered over the rotten corpses because it could cause outbreak of an epidemic in the area.
The official disclosed that 35 bodies were presently being unattended to due to the fact that morgue had been over used, The Cable reports.
Philipconcept Blog's gathered that the hospital had to release the corpse of a civilian JTF member identified by his relatives so as to reduce the number of corpses.
He said: “As I am talking to you now, about 35 corpses are lying down here in the mortuary, without any reservation,” he said.
“The victims include 12 soldiers, five university lecturers, 13 civilian JTF from Magumeri, two NNPC staff and some that were brought yesterday by the military.
“Even the corpse of Dr J.V Militus, the senior lecturer at UNIMAID, is rotting away, with no one to claim it. The whole hospital is smelling. Everyone is worried… we are scared of an outbreak of disease.”
On his part Yemi Osinbajo, acting president has however charged the service chiefs to relocate to the military command control centre in Maiduguri.
Meanwhile, from what we at Philipconcept Blog's gathered early from Naija news media had reported that 3 lecturers from the University of Maiduguri and three others on an oil exploration team in the Lake Chad Basin are dead.
The names of the deceased are: Dr Milicus Joseph from Geology Dept, Idris Abubakar Njodi and Dr Daniel Birma of Dept of Soil Science.
