Late General Vatsa’s son announced dead after brief illness

Alhaji Haruna Vatsa, the first son of the late Major-General Mamman Vatsa and the director-general protocol to Governor Abubakar Bello of Niger is dead.
The chief press secretary to the governor, Malam Jibrin Ndace, made the disclosure in a statement he made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Minna on Tuesday, July 4.
He said that Vatsa died on Tuesday afternoon in Kaduna, after a brief illness.

According to him, details of burial arrangement will be announced later.
The Punch reports that Haruna’s lone brother, Jibrin Mamman Jiya Vatsa, also died in September 2015 in Calabar, Cross River state, after a brief illness.
The father of late Haruna, Major General Mamman Jiya Vatsa, was a senior Nigerian Army officer and writer who was executed by the government of Major General Ibrahim Babangida on 5 March 1986 following a military tribunal death sentence for treason associated with an abortive coup.
He served as minister of the Federal Capital Abuja, and was a member of the Supreme Military Council.
Meanwhile, thousands of sympathisers, including the chief of staff to the president, Malam Abba Kyari, on Tuesday, July 4, attended the funeral prayer for the late Dr Maitama Sule, the Dan masanin Kano.
Kyari led the federal government delegation to the occasion.
The late elder statesman died in the early hours of Monday, July 3 in Cairo, Egypt during a brief illness.
